Condition of sports in India

Condition of sports in India

Hi friends. Today I am going to say something about the condition of sports in India. I am from India so obviously I love my country a lot. If must know that India is 2nd in population after China. As compared to this India is still nowhere in sports. Except cricket the condition of sports in India is just ridicules.
India is a huge country and the number of sports played here are also wide. The contribution of these sports in International level is also remarkable. Despite these achievements and records the condition of sports is really pathetic. I would say, we the people of India are responsible for this. If we compare cricket to other sports then you will realize cricket gets great management and sponsorship, but what about the other sports? The reason may be the craze and popularity of Cricket in every Indian but it’s not good.

Even media is also responsible. Media gives so much attention to cricketers. A single victory against Australia or Pakistan made cricketers milliners, whereas government of India gives only 1000Rs ($20 US) to WHOLE team of hokey for each goal. If you calculate the distribution of money amongst players then you will realize what the condition of Hokey in India is though it’s our national game!

Then why we expect great victories from other sports if we are treating them as low. Hokey is a national game of our India. You should know great hokey player MR. Dhyanchnad. A great player, who played a great role when India defeated Germany in Olympics though Hitler was present to watch the match. Since that day India achieved number of gold medals in Olympics in hokey. But you can’t believe but it’s true that Indian hokey failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympic last year! They came 11 out of 12. More than eight gold medalists, Indian hokey team, even failed to qualify for the Olympics? What a ridicules thing in history of Indian hokey.

Not only hokey, but tennis, football, golf, badminton; all share the same pathetic condition. Neither the sponsors are interested in financing them, nor does the government raise enough funds. Have you ever heard about any other player’s name in news about Income tax except cricketer? Every year there is common news, “XYZ cricketer leave behind others in paying income tax”. What the hell is this? Why no one taking action and restrict them?

Only due to money the talented player in other sports are changing their path and attracting towards cricket. And today the Indian cricket is no more a pure cricket. Politics had entered too. So there will be always plus point for a political background player while getting selected in National team. I would give you another example of dominating behavior of cricket. You may remember this controversy. Pullela Gopichand won the All England Badminton Championship in Britain in 2001, no one cheered him because in the same week, Harbhajan Singh took a hat trick and V. V. S. Laxman scored 281 runs in the Kolkata test against Australia.

Indian sportsmen hold important and unique positions in world sports. We have a lot of players who have added the fame and glory to our nation by their great performances in sports. Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza in Tennis, Jyoti Randhawa in Golf, Pankaj Advani in snooker, Anand and Humpi in chess, Saina Nehwal in badminton, Kartikeyan and Chandok in F1, Bhutia in football, Anju in long jump, Rathore and Rana in shooting. And also recently Abhinav Bindra, Sushil Kumar and Vijendra Kumar, by bagging gold and bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics in 10m air rifle, wrestling and boxing respectively are some of the names that deserve a standing ovation.

I think in Indian sports, only money matters. But if you have a great talent then you must have a great management and sponsors or you will no more. So India should improve a lot of such things in world of sports. Every sport has its own importance and it deserves same respect and management compared to cricket. And about women group sports, NO Comments! They are too poor and backward. Indian government should take a serious attention to the condition of sports in India.

Thanks
