This year’s US Open women’s draw may well be more open than usual due to the absence of Serena Williams, but not having the talented world number one around is certain to remove some of the gloss for whoever is able to win this year’s final Grand Slam.
With Serena having caused uproar amongst those who analyse tennis odds with her behaviour at last year’s tournament, an event that she will be keen to forget following her foul mouthed tirade against officials at the match that resulted in her defeat in the semi-finals against eventual champion Kim Clijsters, she did well to bounce back to top form earlier this year.
Serena won both the Australian Open and LTA Championship at Wimbledon, so any participation at the US Open was expected to result in her picking up her third Grand Slam of an already hugely successful year.
Despite her triumphs this year, success by WTA No. 2 Caroline Wozniacki or WTA No. 5 Jelena Jankovic would see either of these competitors unseat Williams as the new world number one.
With Serena not at the Championship, Wozniacki is the number one seed and started the tournament by dropping only two games in her opening match, showing the kind of form that she will need to continue if she wants to pick up her first Grand Slam title of the year.
With the US Open now wide open, those who are going to place a tennis bet should note that the eventual winner will face a huge challenge if they are to carry over their success at the Grand Slam into the first event in 2011, the Australian Open, an event in which Williams is likely to want to reassert her dominance of the women’s game.

The exit of Tomas Berdych from the US Open at Flushing Meadows has left many Online Tennis Betting experts and punters in shock. Having reached the final of Wimbledon, the Grand Slam that precedes the US Open, Berdych was widely regarded as a potential finalist in this year’s final Grand Slam event.
Having suffered his surprise straight sets defeat to Michael Llodra, Berdych will now be hoping that he is capable of using the Australian Open 2011 to return to the kind of form that has seen him earn himself a career high number 7 ranking on the men’s ATP tour.

Taking a short golf shot in the wind for instance, the 2nd or 3rd shot to the green would need some fine adjustments to be made. It would not be possible to use the normally chosen club because the wind would possibly deflect the ball off place ending up rough course or in the bunker.
The wind force is weakest at the ground. A good golf shot in the wind needs to keep the ball at low altitude. A general approach to accomplish the task is to use a longer club rather than a normal shorter one. The adjustments necessary to confine and balance the extra distance that would otherwise be made:

American Mardy Fish is on a career-best winning streak and playing the best tennis of his life. The season has been a typical one in Mardy Fish's up-and-down career. He was out of the top 100 in the world rankings earlier this year but has shot up to number 35, thanks to an 11-match winning streak and earning the title at his last two tournaments. He most recently entered the Legg Mason Classic, where he will face Marin Cilic in the next round in Washington.
